FITCHBURG -- United Way Volunteer Center received a $6,000 donation from Unitil.

"This gift will help us continue to promote volunteerism in our community," said Karin Oliveira, director of United Way Volunteer Center for United Way of North Central Massachusetts.

According to John DiNapoli, municipal and community manager for Unitil, volunteerism is central to creating healthy communities. "The work the volunteer center is doing is critical; it helps connect concerned citizens with pressing community needs."

Last year, the United Way Volunteer Center engaged more than 2,500 volunteers, who donated 15,500 hours to a variety of community causes. If you would like to know more about volunteer opportunities, go to community-builders.net.
