Twelve students at the Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Still River entered the Voice of Democracy Competition sponsored locally by Townsend VFW Post 6538 and its Ladies Auxiliary and Pepperell VFW Post 3291 and its Ladies Auxiliary.

Voice of Democracy competition information had also been given to North Middlesex Regional, Lunenburg, Ayer-Shirley Regional, Groton-Dunstable Regional and Nashoba Valley Technical High Schools.

Joseph Duffy placed first in the local competition and will receive $150 for that accomplishment. The second-place award of $100 was earned by Dominik Fill. The $50 third-place award will be presented to Bridget Duffy. Joseph and Bridget reside in Shirley. Dominik lives in Littleton.

Rules of this national VFW and Ladies Auxiliary competition permit Posts and Auxiliaries to forward one entry for each 15 or fraction thereof received at the local level into the district level of competition. As a result, Joseph Duffy will receive an additional $50 for his Voice of Democracy entry, placing third in the District 15 competition.
