BEVERLY --Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats, one of Broadway's longest running musicals, bounces onto the stage at North Shore Music Theatre on Tuesday, Aug. 20, and runs through Sept. 1.

Based on "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats," a collection of poems by T.S. Eliot, Cats revolves around the antics of such feline characters as Old Deuteronomy, Jennyanydots, Mr. Mistoffelees, Run Tum Tugger, Skimbleshanks and Grizabella, who sings the show's crossover hit song "Memory."

Richard Stafford directs the production of rambunctious cats gathering for the Jellicle Ball, following a successful run that he directed earlier this month at Theatre by the Sea in Rhode Island.

"I guarantee that this production, under Richard's direction, will astound audiences with its unique in-the-round staging and dazzling choreography," said NSMT owner/producer Bill Hanney. "By producing Cats at both of my venues, while not an entirely shared production, we are able to share many elements of the show and help keep production quality high, while keeping costs down. It is win/win for our audiences and the businesses."

Tickets are $45-$75 with performances Tuesday-Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and Friday-Saturday at 8 p.m. Matinees are Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. A 2 p.m. matinee was added on Thursday, Aug. 29. Kids, 18 and under, save 50 percent on Family Friday, Aug. 23, at 8 p.m. Call 978-232-7200, visit www.nsmt.org or the box office in person at 62 Dunham Rd., Beverly for tickets and info.
