Joseph Fanciullo Jr., age 42, of 9 School St., Townsend, was arrested by Townsend police at approximately 7:15 p.m. after police received a call from Fanciullo's live-in girlfriend that Fanciullo had assaulted and threatened her over the weekend, which she indicated included punching, kicking, choking and threatening to kill her by pouring gasoline on her and lighting her on fire while he held a gasoline container over her head and had a lighter in his hand, as well as threatening her with a sledge hammer.

After being arrested, Fanciullo was held overnight at the Townsend Police Department on $30,000 bail. He was arraigned today at Ayer District Court and was ordered held without bail until Friday, April 26, for a dangerousness hearing.

Franciullo is facing charges that include attempted murder, four counts of domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, domestic assault and battery, threatening to commit murder, and intimidation of a witness.
