PEPPERELL - The Pepperell Fireworks Committee held its first inaugural "Mardi Gras" event on Saturday evening at the Pepperell VFW.
This was one of several fundraisers planned for the year, to support the Pepperell Fourth of July fireworks. The cost to put on the fireworks display is estimated to be $28,000.
The committee hosted a dinner with authentic New Orleans cuisine, including boiled crawfish shipped overnight. The event included New Orleans music, dancing, costume contests, trivia and raffles.
Bead necklaces were distributed to those attending, to those winning trivia questions, and to those with winning raffle ticket numbers. The man and woman with the greatest number of necklaces acquired by the end of the night were crowned the Mardi Gras King and Queen and will be riding on a float in the Fourth of July parade.
Other events planned for
the year include a Golf Tournament
at Townsend Ridge
on May 8, a Carnival on the
Pepperell Town Field from
May 13 to 16, and a "Jump
(yes ... out of a plane) for the
4th" on June 12.
