BOSTON -- MassDOT today advised motorists to expect heavy traffic, particularly on the Massachusetts Turnpike and the Cape Cod approaches, leading into Mother's Day weekend.
The Friday before Mother's Day ranked second only to the Friday before Columbus Day with the most toll transactions logged in a single day in 2013 with 698,481 transactions. October 11, 2013 ranked first with more than 700,000 transactions. These figures include an accounting of all toll road transactions including the Massachusetts Turnpike, the Tobin Bridge and the Harbor Tunnels.
Fridays in the warm weather months consistently make up the top ten. Cash collection booths across the Commonwealth will be adequately staffed throughout the weekend. To save time, money and gas, motorists who have not yet done so are encouraged to join E-ZPass to avoid waiting in line at cash toll booths.
The Cape is a popular Mother's Day weekend destination and travelers this year have access to real time roadside traffic information through the newly launched GO Time system. To plan ahead, the traffic information is available for download using the free RideWise Smartphone App (Apple and Android) that provides live traffic conditions to and from popular Cape destinations.
