LUNENBURG -- A Lunenburg man was killed Sunday morning after he was struck by a car while crossing Mechanic Street.

Peter Robichaud, 59, of 18 Kimball St., had just eaten breakfast at a local diner when he was hit in the street by a 2000 Dodge Intrepid shortly before 6 a.m., according to Timothy J. Connolly, a spokesman for the Worcester District Attorney's Office.

Robichaud had no pulse at the scene of the accident. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, Connolly said.

The driver who struck Robichaud was identified as Philip Heartley, 45, of 43 West Street Terrace, Lunenburg, according to Connolly.

No charges have been filed. Connolly said there was little daylight and Robichaud was wearing dark-colored clothing at the time of the crash.

The accident remains under investigation. Lunenburg police referred all questions to the District Attorney's Office.
