As families get ready for a new school year, keep in mind that old flip-flops, worn clothes, unwanted stuffed animals and household items are needed at area recycling centers.
On Aug. 17, there will be a special event to which you can bring your unwanted yard-sale items or unwanted textiles to be swapped.
The clothing bins around local communities and at the participating recycling centers recycle as well as reuse the various textiles. Accepted items include: clothing, footwear (singles OK, holes OK), sheets, blankets, handbags, belts, old backpacks and soft/plush toys. Good, bad and ugly accepted, as long as it has no smell and is not wet.
Participating facilities and organizations: Center Bridge Road, Lancaster, Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to noon; 33 Greenville Road, Townsend, Saturday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and also at Salvation Army thrift shops in Fitchburg and Gardner.
