The date is set, the sponsors have volunteered and registration has begun for the 7th Annual Holdenwood Trail Run for Education.
On Sunday, Sept. 29, the 2K race will kick off behind the historic Center Town Hall in Shirley at 10 a.m., with the 5K and 10K races starting at 11 a.m. The challenging course goes over bridges, up and down hills, and through the scenic gardens, fields and forests of Holdenwood, a family-owned nature reserve in Shirley Center.
Registration has already begun, with running caps produced by Premier Sponsor ALL-STAR going to the first 300 registrants. Besides helping with race expenses, the other Premier Sponsor, The Bull Run Restaurant, has promised one free beer or ice cream to all finishers.
To register for the trail run, look for the link on the website -- www.holdenwoodtrailrun.org. There will be a free long sleeve tech T-shirt for the first 100 on-line registrants. All those who pre-register receive a $5 discount versus day-of-race walk-in registrations. All those who are age 65 or older may register for free.
Thanks go to Gold Sponsor Nashoba Club Restaurant for donating 500 water bottles to the runners. Gold Sponsor Duval Sign Company is already at work preparing new signage for this year's race, which includes the 10K for the first time. Silver Sponsor Evans on the Common will be providing some of the race prizes.
The trail run planning committee hopes that more of last year's sponsors will sign up to help out since all of the proceeds for the race go to Ayer Shirley Education Foundation, which provides additional materials, equipment and programs for the Ayer and Shirley schools.
