TOWNSEND -- James F. Clish, 72, of West Elm Street, died Wednesday, March 27, at Genesis Westford House, Westford.

Mr. Clish was born in Boston, August 2, 1940, the son of Charles and Lena (Greenough) Clish and has resided in Townsend for 50 years. He grew up in Ayer and was a 1958 graduate of Ayer High School.

For the past several years, Mr. Clish worked at Moore Enterprises in Townsend. Previously, he worked nearly 30 years at the Horn Packaging Company in Ayer and in the 1960's and 1970's was a sergeant in the Townsend Police Department.

An active member of the Townsend Congregational Church, he held several positions with the church including church moderator, trustee as well as serving on the Church Outreach ministry.

He was a founding member of the Townsend Ecumenical Outreach program. Townsend Ecumenical Outreach (TEO) is a non-profit, all volunteer organization that provides emergency and temporary assistance to Townsend residents. Since its inception in 1984, Jim served as the organization's president and currently was serving as chairman of the board of directors.

He was also a member of the Sandy Pond School Association in Ayer.

He leaves his wife of 34 years, Christine F. (Godin) Clish; a stepson, Steven J. Houle and his wife, Susan, of Salem, Virginia.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at the Townsend Congregational Church, 3 Brookline St., Townsend. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
