PEPPERELL -- Varnum Brook Elementary School Assistant Principal Michael Caira has left his job for a principal position in Ashland Public Schools.

The move was confirmed by Varnum Brook Principal Pauline Cormier, who said the move was not tied to the current budget situation within the district, but was a position he had been looking at since April. His new post is at a Kindergarten through grade two school, she said.

Confusion may be in part because the resignation is happening over the summer, she said, making it is harder to get info to students and parents.

Caira worked with Cormier for two years and was a "great partner."

"I will miss him greatly, he worked for us over two difficult years," Cormier said. "He'll certainly miss standing out front of the school greeting kids and touring Kindergarten classes."

Over the next few weeks Cormier said she will be interviewing candidates for the assistant principal position.
