PEPPERELL -- The first annual Covered Bridge 5K is set for this fall.
Racers, first time or seasoned, are encouraged to join in the event to benefit the Friends of Pepperell Recreation. It is going to be held on September 30, but racers are encouraged to sign up.
Friends of Pepperell Recreation, along with New England Multisport Triathlon have partnered with local organizers to encourage healthy, active lifestyles in the past, present and future.
Race committee member Tasha van Es says the group began organizing the event last winter and is excited to get it going.
"We hope it is a motivation for people who want to try it for the first time," she said.
Van Es said the group wants to recreate the atmosphere of other poplar, local races in Groton and Hollis, NH , which are held in the springtime and regularly draw crowds of 1,500 or more.
In an effort to make the race as much 'Pepperell' as it can be, the course will begin on the town field and run north under the covered bridge and then turn back down Main Street to just before the rotary.
There are several ways to get involved on and off the course. Runners or walkers may sign up for the event for $25. A kids relay, where pairs of youngsters can each run half of the event, is $15 and there will also be a free, kids 1K on the town field.
Children under 13 can register for $15 and seniors over the age of 65 can enter for $10.
Volunteers are also needed for organizing
Organizers are hoping to solicit sponsors over the next several months as well. Sponsors at the $250 and over level gets a logo on site and t-shirt plus 2 free race entries, those between $100 and $250 will get their name on the site and t-shirt plus 1 free entry and $100 and under will get a mention on the site.
