In a move the agency says won't have much of an impact on its constituents but will require changes to operating systems, forms and procedures, NOAA Fisheries has changed the name of its Northeast Regional Office to the Greater Atlantic Regional Fisheries Office, or the Greater Atlantic Region. NOAA announced the move in an email circulated on Monday, saying the change was made at the direction of Congress "to better reflect the broad extent of our region, which spans from Maine to North Carolina and includes the Great Lakes." NOAA added that the change is "in line recent efforts to expand our presence in the Mid-Atlantic region," where its new assistant regional administrator for stakeholder engagement, Kevin Chu, is based in Maryland.
