AYER -- An Ayer man faces charges for resisting arrest and assault and battery after police visited his Groton School Road home.

On Aug. 27, the Ayer Police received a call that Scott Hollis, 23, was threatening to harm himself. Hollis, the subject of two arrest warrants out of Ayer District Court for larceny and related crimes, was placed under arrest.

When Sgt. Austin Cote and Patrolman James Wilson entered the home, Hollis struggled with the officers, provoking added charges of resisting arrest. When transported to the hospital, Hollis allegedly intentionally spit on two hospital staff members who were trying to treat him, giving rise to two assault and battery charges.

Hollis was arraigned on Aug. 27 and returns to Ayer District Court on Sept. 20 for a pre-trial conference.
