BRIEFS

Green Community Committee needs members

Two new members for the Green Community Committee are needed. Since its inception the committee has been very productive. The committee has met five criteria for becoming a green community, then applied for and received a grant for $151,000 that was used for energy conservation measures and most recently contracted with EPGSolar for net metering credits worth more than $3 million over 20 years.

If you are concerned about climate change, this is a place where you can make a difference.

Those who wish to be a member should send a resume along with a letter of interest to Town Administrator Robert Pontbriand.

Household Hazardous Products

Ayer is a member of the Devens Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center located at 9 Cook St. (rear) in Devens.

They had record attendance in May! Residents enjoyed the opportunity to properly dispose their toxic waste safely and easily. Average wait times were 3 minutes, so it is an easy in and easy out operation. They are open on the first Wednesday and following Saturday from 9 to noon. Find out more at www.DevensHHW.com.

Town beach now open

The town beach is open daily until Labor Day. The hours when lifeguards are on duty for public swimming are noon to 7 p.m. All lifeguards are Red Cross-certified.

There is no swimming at the town beach when lifeguards are not on duty.

For more information call the Parks Department at 978-772-8217, the Sandy Pond Beach office at 978-501-1531, or email hjanuskiewicz@ayer.ma.us.
