Geek of the Week
Occupation: Student exchange and travel coordinator
Why do you come to the library? I come to the library to pick up movies and books and books on tape for road trips. We also enjoy some great kids programs and museum passes.
What do you geek? Travel
The Lawrence Library geeks travel, too! Sue is right that we have lots of great audio books to bring on road trips, and if you're away and can't make it into the library, we have ebooks that you can check out right from your tablet! Those preparing to travel may enjoy learning about their destinations in one of our many travel books, such as the popular Rick Steves series. For those traveling internationally, we also have the "Culture Shock!" series of books, which give a brief overview of the cultures, customs and etiquette of several countries around the world. You can brush up on your foreign language skills with our language learning CDs.
We have "A to Z USA" and "A to Z World Travel" databases, which provide information on all 50 states and the 5 U.S. territories as well as countries around the world. Each database entry provides history, statistics, maps and lots of other information -- they even have recipes, so you can enjoy many different cultures even when you're back at home. (The recipe for Massachusetts is for our official state dish -- Boston baked beans!)
The library can help everyone explore the things they geek. For information, or if you are interested in being the Geek of the Week, stop by Lawrence Library.
